SAA-SDS Student Writers Win at WordSmith

04 Mar, 2026
Creativity was on full display this weekend as 10 of our St. Agnes and St. Dominic 7th-12th grade students participated in the recent WordSmith Writing Olympics competition held at the University of Memphis. The competition, which is over 35 years old, brings together 200 of the best student writers from 30 area schools. Our Stars and Suns captured the 3rd place school trophy in both the 7th grade and 9th grade divisions.
The SAA-SDS Participants were:
7th grade: Dillon Jones, Reeves Ogles, Sophia Orman, Francesca Price,
8th grade: Harris Lucchesi, AJ Ongsingco, Lily Patel, Eleanor Weems
9th grade: Penny Natera
11th grade: Virginia Maness
The goal of Wordsmith is to test and celebrate students' writing and creative thinking abilities in a fast-paced environment. Students compete in a series of quick themed writing exercises known as dashes: a 40-word dash, 80-word dash, 120-word dash, and a 400-word Main Event for competitors who place well in the other dashes.
