Fine Arts in the Big Apple

18 Feb, 2026
Twenty years ago, the St. Agnes Fine Arts Faculty saw an opportunity to share a true arts immersion experience with the Upper School girls in our Art, Theatre and Music programs. They invited any students who were interested in an “arts adventure” to travel to New York City with their teachers for four days.
Today, this is still one of the most successful school-sponsored trips we offer. The group just returned from the 2026 trip where they attended three Broadway shows: Wicked, Death Becomes Her, and Hell’s Kitchen. The trip also included spectacular art experiences at The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met) and The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).

Mrs. Ginny Crittendon, Chair of the Fine Arts Department, added an exciting new hands-on experience to this year’s trip. She explained, “Our students participated in a MAD Lab Workshop through the Museum of Art & Design. They got to meet with a local artist who shared her process and then had a personal interactive tour of Douriean Fletcher’s jewelry designed for the movie Black Panther. They wrapped up the session by making their own relief jewelry.”

On their final day, students celebrated Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral before heading to a musical theatre workshop, led by a cast member of Death Becomes Her. In addition to visiting many iconic restaurants and neighborhoods, other not-to-be-missed sights included the Top of the Rock Observatory, Central Park, Times Square, Radio City Music Hall, and the Museum of Broadway.
This trip gives Upper School students a chance to view many different forms of artistic expression, enhance multicultural awareness, and spend valuable time together. It is an unforgettable experience, embracing the fact that arts must be experienced to truly be appreciated. Even though the girls just returned from the 2026 trip-plans for the 2027 trip are already in the making!
