Coach Burkhead Named TSSAA Bowling Coach of the Year

The Athletic Department is excited to announce that SAA Bowling Coach Matt Burkhead has been selected by the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association as the 2024-25 Girls Bowling Coach of the Year! This honor is based upon the positive work he has done with the athletes in our program and his overall performance as a coach on and off the field.
Having received this award, Coach Burkhead’s name will now be submitted to the National Federation of State High School Associations, making him eligible for future honors at the sectional and national levels.
Coach Burkhead has been a part of the SAA bowling program for nine years and has held the position of Head Coach for the last five years. During the 2024-25 season he led the Stars to an undefeated record (12-0), a second back-to-back regional championship, and the title of Tennessee State Champions.
The team record under Coach Burkhead’s tenure is 76-10, boasting a total of three state titles. In all, the SAA Bowling Team has won an impressive six total state championships.
The 25-26 team includes four returning bowlers and 11 new bowlers. They kicked off the season yesterday with a win over Hutchison, earning the highest pin total in the region! GO STARS!
