An Outstanding Year for Our 6th & 7th Grade Stars and Suns

08 May, 2024
The SAA and SDS Four Pillars Assemblies are celebrations centered on our 6th and 7th grade students’ accomplishments, grounded in the Dominican Pillars of Prayer, Study, Service and Community. These gatherings give us an opportunity to recognize individual achievements and to honor the sisterhood and brotherhood that unites us in community.
Students recognized within the Pillar of Prayer are those individuals that are visible witnesses of their faith to others. Those acknowledged with the Pillar of Study have achieved noteworthy honors and accomplishments in their academic pursuits. Students recognized within the Pillar of Service have gone above and beyond required service hours thorough engagement in individual and campus-wide projects. Those recognized within the Pillar of Community are young men and women that exemplify the sisterhood and brotherhood they share with their classmates.
The Deans also presented the Star Award and Sun Awards, the Dominican Spirit Awards, and the Justice, Respect and Peace (JRP) Awards at each assembly.
The Star Award and Sun Award recipients, chosen by the students, create a positive school community by exhibiting the Gospel message of love in their everyday lives. Pictured below are SDS Sun Award recipients AJ Ongsingco (6th), Cole Tidwell (7th), Jake Golden (7th) and Mosby Wade (7th) and SAA Star Award recipients Brooke Clayburn (6th) and Ava Casey (7th).
The Dominican Spirit Award recipients, chosen by the faculty, are recognized for actively demonstrating the Pillars throughout the school year. Pictured below are SDS Dominican Spirit Award recipients Philip King (6th) and Graham Dyer (7th) and SAA recipients Avery Holton(6th), Victoria Herron(7th) and Kate Seelig (7th).
The JRP Award recipients, also chosen by faculty, are students who treat others with respect and stand up for justice, using their voices to support and protect others. Pictured below are SDS JRP Award recipients Harris Lucchesi (6th) and Owen Belaney (7th) and SAA recipients Nadia Boutte (6th), Isabel Jordan (7th) and Jessica Perez (7th).
One additional award, the Heart of a Brother Award, is presented by Christian Brothers High School to a 7th grade SDS student that demonstrates the virtues of a loving brother, mentor, role model, and friend. This year’s recipient was Cole Tidwell, and his award was presented to him by his brother and SDS alum, Joseph Tidwell (‘21). Pictured below are Cole and Joseph Tidwell.
Congratulations to our 6th and 7th grade students for an outstanding year! You make us so proud!
