Top Honors for the St. Agnes Academy Class of 2023

St. Agnes Academy is pleased to announce the top honors for the Class of 2023. Congratulations to Valedictorian Alexandra McLaren, Salutatorian Anna Heck, and Third Honors Vina Vedala.

Valedictorian Alexandra McLaren has distinguished herself as a scholar, a leader, and an athlete. In the fall she will attend Georgetown University where she plans to study Biology of Global Health. Alexandra is an AP Scholar and earned Silver Medalist honors on the National Latin Exam. She is President of the National English Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, as well as a member of the National Honor Society and the Latin Honor Society.  Throughout high school she has been involved in the Government Club serving as Co-President and earning recognition as an Outstanding Statesperson. She is the secretary for Health Occupations Students of America, a member of the National Beta Club, a volunteer Math Tutor in the St. Agnes Learning Lab and a retreat leader.  Alexandra is a four-year member of the SAA soccer team and has played competitively throughout high school for Lobos Rush. She was awarded an Auburn University Presidential Scholarship, a Fordham University Loyola Scholarship and Tuition Award, a Southern Methodist University Discovery Scholarship and Distinguished Scholar Award, a Texas Christian University Faculty Scholarship, a University of Alabama Presidential Scholarship, and a University of Georgia Classic Scholars Award.

Salutatorian Anna Heck will attend the University of Notre Dame where she has been awarded a Women's Golf Athletic Scholarship. She plans to study Neuroscience & Behavior.  A 15-year student at St. Agnes, Anna is a National Merit Commended Student and an AP Scholar. She is a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, and Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica. She is a student ambassador for the St. Agnes Costa Rican Cultural Exchange program planning the itinerary and hosting visiting students. She tutors Math and Spanish in the St. Agnes Learning Lab and serves as Co-President of Forever Friends. Anna is the TSSAA 2022 Golf Individual State champion and won three Individual Regional Championships.  She was team captain for three years helping lead the Stars to two state titles and three regional titles. As a sophomore Anna was selected Best of the Preps Golfer of the Year, and she was named to the Commercial Appeal All-Metro team for five years in a row.  

Vina Vedala earned Third Honors in the Class of 2023. Vina is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society, National Honor Society, the Socieidad Honoraraia Hispanica, and serves as Vice President of the Rho Kappa Honor Society. Vina has been named an AP Scholar with Honor.  She has served the school as a Peer Mentor, Spanish Tutor, Honor Council Leader, and Teacher’s Assistant. She is Co-President of the Government Club and has been the Hangout Coordinator for Forever Friends for three years.  She is a member of the Beta Club, Eco Stars and Book Club. She is also a leader on the court having competed for the Stars in basketball for four years.  Vina will attend the University of Missouri studying Biological Sciences.  She was accepted into the Honors College and is a recipient of the Mark Twain Award. She was also awarded a University of South Carolina In-State Tuition Scholarship
