The Learning Specialists at St. Agnes Academy-St. Dominic School are an integral part of how we ensure each student is able to achieve academic excellence. Working collaboratively with our teachers and counselors, our Learning Specialists support students with different learning styles by providing intervention, remediation, and enrichment when needed.

One Learning Specialist committed to unlocking our students’ potential is Gail Skinner. In her 20thyear with our school, Gail serves our St. Agnes K-8 students by partnering with parents and outside professionals to make sure students’ needs are met within our classrooms. She is committed to our vision that each child will flourish academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually on our campus.

Please take a moment to get to know Mrs. Skinner a little better:

How would you describe your role here at SAA-SDS?

I work closely with teachers, students, and parents to provide academic support for all students. A few of the things I do include facilitating meetings, developing and implementing Learning Plans, teaching small group reading lessons, and working with the SAA testing coordinator to provide accommodations when necessary.

What do you hope to accomplish in your job?

I want to ensure that every student has the opportunity to reach her full potential.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I love the students and the sense of fulfillment I have at the end of the day that I made a positive impact on a student's life.

What is the most important life lesson you want students to learn?

Through hard work and perseverance, they can achieve their dreams.

Which of the Dominican Pillars-Study, Prayer, Community, Service-is most supported by your role at the School?

I believe the Pillar that is most supported by my role at St. Agnes is Study. In my professional capacity, teaching strategies for studying gives students an important tool to help them succeed.

What are you grateful for?

I'm grateful for the fantastic group of colleagues that motivate me daily to be a better teacher, and I am grateful for a family that supports me in all that I do.

What are your interests outside of the classroom? What are you particularly passionate about?

I am passionate about my art. I have been doing pencil drawings and watercolor paintings for about five years now and I truly enjoy it!
