One Cool Science Unit

25 Jan, 2021
Our Junior Kindergarten friends spent the last two weeks learning all about penguins-the different species, varied habitats, foods eaten, and camouflage used.
On Friday, January 22, they wrapped up the unit with an entire day of penguin fun. The students dressed like penguins, created their very own Antarctic habitat, and put on a “blubber mitt” to test if their hands would stay warm in a bowl of ice.
The highlight of the day was a live stream visit with the Memphis Zoo. The students got an up close view as they watched the penguins eat breakfast, and they had an opportunity to ask questions. Thank you to Memphis Zoo Chief Marketing Officer Nick Harmeier, father of SAA second grade student Betty Jean Harmeier, for facilitating the live stream!
