SAA-SDS Robotics Teams Compete in Worldwide Lego League Challenge

Two teams of St. Agnes and St. Dominic students have joined the First Lego League Robotics Challenge, a worldwide competition for students in 4th-6thgrade.

The Saint Agnes Stars team and the Saint Dominic Suns team will meet weekly throughout the fall as they embark on this global challenge.

The theme of the competition is Into Orbit.  Each team is challenged to build and program a robot to complete a series of tasks on the competition board. In addition, each team is charged with completing a project that explores an issue that humans might encounter while traveling in space. Team members will then devise possible solutions and present this information to the First Lego League (FLL) at the qualifying competition in December.

“Building robots and exploring space help our students gain valuable skills in engineering and programing. In addition, they learn how to research and problem solve all while competing against other teams,” said Marshall Lawlor, St. Dominic School teacher and team sponsor.

Students will compete in the qualifier for the West Tennessee Championship in November. If they qualify for the championship they will compete again in January with the possibility of advancing to State competition, then National/Worlds.
