Criteria & Procedures

The Albertus Magnus Award identifies a member of the St. Agnes Academy-St. Dominic School faculty who has established a distinguished teaching career at the School.  Albertus Magnus (St. Albert the Great), a Dominican priest and bishop, was a noted scholar and teacher in the 12th century.
 
Criteria:
The nominee must be:
1.  A teacher at St. Agnes Academy and/or St. Dominic School for at least seven years;
2.  A teacher exhibiting a clear, integrated philosophy of Catholic education;
3.  A teacher held in high regard by peers, students, and parents;
4.  A teacher who models the four Dominican Pillars: Service, Community, Study, and Prayer.
 
Procedures:
Step 1:  The Teacher is nominated by one of the following: a colleague, a staff member, a parent of a current or former student, a current or former student, an alumna/us, or self. The Nominator completes the Nomination Form and submits it to the Nominee's Academic Leader no later than Tuesday, January 9, 2024
 
Step 2:  The Academic Leader completes an Information Form on each nominee and gathers the Nominee’s Recommendations and Educational Philosophy and Open Response answers. The entire packet, consisting of (1) Nomination Form, (2) Information Form, (3) Recommendations, (4) Open Response Answers, is submitted to President Hood by Tuesday, January 23, 2024. The forms will then be forwarded to the Chair of the Mission & Identity Committee of the Board of Trustees.
 
Step 3:  The Mission and Identity Committee of the Board of Trustees selects the recipient of the award.
 
Step 4: The recipient of the award is named at a special ceremony at an All-School Mass on Friday, April 19, 2024, receives a $500 honorarium, and has his/her name added to the perpetual plaque established for this award.
