At the Orpheum’s annual High School Musical Awards, SAA junor Taylor Brown won Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Asaka in Once on This Island.
Each year public, private, and parochial schools in Memphis and the surrounding area have the opportunity to submit a musical performance for adjudication and possible nominations in the Orpheum High School Musical Awards. This year 29 schools participated in the competition, and the St Agnes Theatre Department received six nominations for the performance of Once On This Island. Nominations included Best Small Ensemble - the gods, Best Front of House, Outstanding Artistic Element - the storm, Outstanding Lighting, Outstanding Technical Achievement, and Outstanding Supporting Actress - Taylor Brown as Asaka.
Fifty cast members, parents, and friends of the program attended the awards show on May 24 to cheer on St Agnes. SAA students Kennedy Hall, Kourtney Pryor, and Summer Edwards danced in the opening and closing numbers, and Taylor Brown performed with other nominees for Best Supporting Actors and Actresses, shining with a significant solo in the group song. Congratulations to these incredibly talented students!
