Learning Support Services
The St. Agnes Academy-St. Dominic School Learning Specialists provide individualized instruction for students in Grades 1st-8th. In Grades 1st-3rd, services are delivered both in the classroom and as a pullout program that provides additional small-group instruction. Students in Grades 4th-8th report to the Learning Specialist at a designated time for instruction.
In order to be considered for school-based accommodations in all classes, the student must submit to her grade counselor recommendations and test data from a psycho-educational evaluator within three years of the request. A medical physician’s letter may be included with the test data. If the student qualifies, accommodations include extended time on chapter tests and semester exams (no extended time on quizzes, papers and projects), the opportunity to photocopy another student’s notes, and preferential classroom seating. Extended time refers to an extra 30 minutes per test and 45 minutes per exam. The eligible student must ask the teacher two days in advance of the test/exam. Extended time may be used in Advanced Placement classes and on AP exams if the College Board grants it. Extended time on tests is administered before school from 7:10 am to 7:40 am in a designated location monitored by a faculty member. Extended time exams are administered in a specific location on an announced schedule during the Upper School exam week.
Students apply for accommodations on College Board (SAT) and ACT assessments with the assistance of the Upper School counseling department. Students must have used their school-based accommodations for at least one semester.
