Meet our Upper School SGA President, Annabelle Lawler
28 Aug, 2024
A student at St. Agnes Academy since 9th grade, SGA President Annabelle Lawler is ready to lead by example and is excited to work with the SGA team. Take a minute to get to know her a little better and learn about her goals for the year!
What is your favorite thing about SAA?
What I love most about SAA is the strong sense of belonging. The community here is incredibly welcoming and supportive. There are countless opportunities to grow personally and prepare yourself for future success. It truly feels like a place where you can grow and be your authentic self.
What is your favorite St. Agnes tradition and why?
My favorite tradition at St. Agnes is Spirit Week. From the skit rehearsals to the dress-up days, there's something truly special about this week. I enjoy deepening the connections with all the girls in my class. It’s a time filled with excitement and unity that I look forward to every year.
Why did you decide to participate in Student Government?
I want to make a difference and connect with students who are also committed to improving our school. My goal is to positively influence the next generation of leaders and inspire them to embrace leadership. Being part of the SGA feels like being on a team—just without the ball!
What does it mean to you to have the support of your peers?
Being elected by the student body was both humbling AND exciting. I really enjoy working with the other members of the SGA. They're incredibly creative and always inspire each other to excel. We’re a supportive team, constantly empowering one another to reach for excellence.
What are your goals for the year as SGA president?
This year, my goal is to foster connections and build strong relationships among everyone in the upper school. I want everyone to experience the love and warmth of this community through the people around them. This school is truly special, and it's the people who make it so. I aim to lead by example, stiving to show selflessness and inclusivity.
What has St. Agnes taught you about leadership?
St. Agnes has shown me that leadership is a skill anyone can develop. It’s helped me come out of my shell and build connections with students across different grades. Leadership is about relationships, and every girl at this school has the opportunity to thrive in leadership.
What other activities are you involved in at SAA?
I am involved in the SAA Theatre Department, Key Club and Beta Club, as well as both Ladies First and Starlettes. I am also a Peer Mentor for the freshman class.
What are you involved in outside of school?
I work at Sunrise Memphis on the weekends, workout in my free time, and love hanging out with friends.
Annabelle is pictured above in the SGA presidential overalls! At St. Agnes, the overalls are a treasured tradition passed from one SGA president to the next. They represent the influential students who have previously led our school. Established 9 years ago, this tradition involves presenting the overalls to the incoming SGA president during the inductions at the end of the school year. Annabelle will proudly wear the overalls during Spirit Week, at games, and at any other spirited occasions.
