Choosing a college is one of the biggest decisions that our students will make. It is always a very exciting time, full of academic focus, discovery, and dreams about the future.
Our college counselors work with each girl (and family) to guide her through the self-assessment process, identifying her individual gifts, talents, interests, and strengths. Our counselors serve as a link to college admissions officers, helping them understand our students' accomplishments and experiences within the rigors of our curriculum.
College admissions representatives traditionally visit campus during the fall semester for 30-minute appointments with interested students during lunch and homeroom periods.
In the spring we host college Boot Camp, a series of meetings for juniors to introduce them to some of the upcoming forms and procedures they will encounter as seniors as well as to discuss the benefits of visiting colleges during the summer preceding senior year.
When classes begin each August, the senior class attends three Boot Camps, covering all aspects of the college admissions process, including essay writing, updating resumes, requesting teacher recommendations and transcripts, preparing for college visits and interviews, and applying for scholarships, financial aid and on campus housing. Seniors considering collegiate sports meet to review registering with the NCAA and to develop a sports resume.
Naviance is the electronic document system that our students, faculty and counselors use with colleges and universities that accept transcripts, recommendations, etc., in this manner. Other resources for sending a seniors materials are also used.
