Director of Athletics
Jim, better known as Coach Lass, has worked in education for over four decades. Prior to joining the St. Agnes-St. Dominic staff, Jim served as an athletic director and coached football, basketball, baseball and track. Coach Lass is beginning his 19th year at SAA-SDS and currently coaches the SAA high school basketball team and the SDS 7th-8th grade football team.
Coach Lass’s primary responsibilities include overseeing the athletic program K-12, working with department coordinators, hiring and working with coaches, communicating the athletic philosophy to the SAA-SDS community, and working within the community to raise funds to have the resources to compete at a higher level.
Under his leadership, Coach Lass has rejuvenated the Booster Club and added football, bowling, lacrosse and trap to the athletic program. In 2004, he received the district’s TSSAA AF Bridges Athletic Director of the Year award. In 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014, our high school received the Best of Preps Award for the best overall female program in Shelby County. Promoting good sportsmanship, Coach always reminds his team to “be proud of your efforts when you lose and be humble when you win.”
Jim’s belief in St. Agnes Academy-St. Dominic School extends beyond the sports program. He has three daughters who graduated from St. Agnes, Jenny (2000), Kate ( 2002) and Jamie (2005).
Assistant Director of Athletics, Upper School Coordinator
Mary Harmeier, graduated from University of Southern Indiana certified in K-12 Health and Physical Education. She taught 9-12 Health and Physical Education and was Assistant Athletic Director for 15 years in Indiana. For the last 20 years she taught Health and Physical Education and was Assistant Athletic Director at St. Agnes Academy. She has coached soccer, volleyball, basketball, softball, track, and swimming at various times, for over 40 years.
Lower School Coordinator
Coach Chip has been coaching youth sports since 1979, and has coached 1st-12th grade in football, basketball, and baseball. He graduated from Christian Brothers High School and played college football at Auburn University and Memphis State University (U of M) where he obtained his degree. He has two sons that graduated from St Dominic School who both attend Christian Brothers High School.
Admin Assistant to Athletics
Employed at St. Agnes – St. Dominic since 1996, Mrs. S. Maness has filled many roles throughout the years. In addition to teaching in the Upper School, she was also the head volleyball coach for 10 years, a curriculum integrationist with the IT Department, and most recently a part-time administrative assistant in the Athletic Department. She has two children attending SAA-SDS, an 8th grade boy and a 2nd grade girl.
Katie Perkins, ATC is a certified athletic trainer who will be on-site at St. Agnes Academy-St. Dominic School full time for practices and games. She spent the last 5 years with Chattanooga State Community College, Girls Preparatory School, and St. Mary’s Episcopal School. Katie graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and has clinical experience with almost every sport. She will work together with Dr. Massey, other ORTHOMEMPHIS physicians, and physical therapists to ensure that SAA-SDS students, athletes, and families receive the highest quality orthopaedic care.
