OrthoMemphis and St. Agnes Academy-St. Dominic School created a Sports Medicine Partnership in 2012. This partnership allows athletes to optimize their sports performance through injury prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation.
OrthoMemphis is a team of 17 physicians that provide surgical and non-surgical orthopaedic care. Each of our fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeons focus on their specialty area of sports medicine, spine, hand & upper extremity, foot & ankle, shoulder, hip & knee, total joint replacement, or bone and soft tissue tumors of the extremities in children and adults.
Team Doctor: Sam Murrell, MD
Dr. Murrell is fellowship trained in orthopaedic surgery and neurosurgery of the spine from the prestigious Rothman Institute in Philadelphia, PA. As a collegiate rowing athlete at Harvard, Dr. Murrell understands well the demands of rigorous training for sports, as well as the balance that is needed to optimize sports performance.
As the team doctor, Dr. Murrell has enjoyed taking care of SAA-SDS student athletes and their families. He believes that orthopaedic care should be tailored to each patient and include a multidisciplinary approach including treatment, physical therapy, and athletic training. With this approach, patient athletes are able to maintain strength and flexibility throughout their treatment which facilitates a faster return to their sport or activity.
