Community of Concern
To answer the challenges that parents face regarding the perils of underage drinking and/or other drug use, the Parents’ Club of Georgetown Preparatory School organized the first Community of Concern and wrote the first “Parent’s Guide for the Prevention of Alcohol and Other Drug Use.” The second community to form such a group was in Memphis in 2000. Thirty-five independent and parochial schools in Memphis endorse the Parent’s Guide and distributed it to parents in their schools. There is now a steering committee compromised of parent representatives from all thiry-five schools who meet throughout the year to plan strategies and activities for parents and students.

All parents will receive a copy of the handbook for St. Agnes – St. Dominic, and communications from the steering committee will be included in school publications. Parents are strongly encouraged to refer to this parent handbook for guidance and instructions.

As a parent of a Saint Agnes Academy-Saint Dominic School student, I agree to support the following guidelines concerning out-of-school activities:

• There will be adult chaperones present and visible when I have a student-attended party in my home or on my property.

• No students will be allowed to use tobacco products or to consume alcohol or other drugs while in my home, on my property or under my charge.

• I understand that I am encouraged to call other parents and to welcome calls from other parents concerning out-of-school social events that our children are planning. I agree to keep these calls confidential if I am asked by another parent to do so.

• I understand that I am encouraged to communicate with another parent if I have information that his or her child is participating in dangerous or unhealthy practices. I agree to keep this information confidential if I am asked to do so by the parent who contacted me.

• I agree to make plans for appropriate adult supervision of my children if I am to be away from home. If my children are old enough to stay alone while I am out of town, I will inform neighbors and / or the police of my absence.
